Los duendes y San Patricio. Cuento tradicional Irlandés

Leyendas populares irlandesas para contar a los niños

Cada 17 de marzo se celebra la festividad de San Patricio, una fiesta irlandesa que ha traspasado fronteras y que hoy en día se celebra en muchos lugares del mundo.

Leyenda de San Patricio y los duendes para contar a los niños

Cuenta la leyenda que San Patricio, patrón de los irlandeses tras fundar su primera iglesia invitó a todos los no creyentes a unirse al cristianismo. San Patricio realizó varios milagros y entonces, todos los paganos comenzaron a unirse a la iglesia.

Mientras, los druidas, que eran los sacerdotes de los dioses paganos, pensaron en poner en marcha un plan para que todos sus seguidores volvieran con ellos y dejaran de seguir a San Patricio.

Fue entonces cuando los druidas invocaron a los duendes y mandaron a una gran tropa de ellos a la iglesia de San Patricio para que le hicieran la vida imposible al monje.

Los pequeños duendecillos comenzaron entonces a hacer de las suyas y gastaron bromas y jugarretas a los feligreses que acudían a la iglesia de San Patricio. Tantas pifias les hacían que los cristianos comenzaron a quejarse porque no los dejaban rezar y sufrían un sin fin de desmanes en el templo.

En ese momento San Patricio decidió hacerles frente, sabiendo que era obra de los druidas. Así fue que el monje se enfrentó a ellos con las siguientes palabras: 'En nombre de Dios Todopoderoso yo los expulso, espíritus impuros.'

Estas pocas palabras sirvieron para que San Patricio desterrase a los duendes de la iglesia, y con ellos consiguió que los druidas dejaran de molestar a los nuevos feligreses.

Desde entonces y hasta nuestros días la imagen de San Patricio es utilizada para alejar a los duendes y evitar que sigan haciendo de las suyas.

Normally in the present tense we add S to the end of the verb in the 3rd person (He, She, It).

Irregular Verbs

Irregular verbs in English in the present tense follow very simple rules. The only change that is made to these verbs is in the third person – for He, She or It.

1. If the verb ends in SS, X, CH, SH or the letter O, we add + ES in the third person.

2. If the verb ends in a Consonant + Y, we remove the Y and + IES in the third person.

Negative Sentence

To form the negative we use the auxiliary do not. Again, the only variation occurs in the 3rd person where we usedoes not.

Carol studies	Carol does not study
We study	We do not study

In the negative, the main verb is always in the bare infinitive (without TO). It doesn't change for the third person. We don't put an S on the end of the verb in the negative form. In the examples above - talk, sleep and study do not change in the 3rd person.

• He speaks Italian
  He doesn't speak Italian.

Remember: Do not can be abbreviated to Don't and Does not can be abbreviated to Doesn't.
